Vice President of Hak-İş Confederation and President of Öz Orman-İş Union, Settar Aslan participated in International Forestry Week Program organized by Romanian Forest Ministry and Romanian Forest Federation in Bucharest within the scope of World Forestry Week celebrations, and made a presentation with the subject of “the Role of Civil Society Organizations in Nature Conservation”.

Settar Aslan, who mentioned that there is a direct relation with presence of forests and a healthy environment, said “Our forests are necessary not only for fresh air but also for clean and healthy water needs. I must say with honor that my country is one of the few countries that increase the forest presence in the world. Thanks toour forests, we are creditor in terms of making a positive contribution to the global atmosphere.”

Aslan, said “I think it shall be beneficial to support official efforts in this field by Non Governmental Organizations, especially unions. In this context, I believe that effective participation of unions and other NGOs to international activities related with forestry and environment shall be beneficial”.

Settar Aslan, pointed out that forestry and environmental protection activities could be successful with the participation of all countries, and continued as follows:

“We know that there are legal boundaries between our countries. But the atmosphere we live in is a whole. The destruction of the Amazon Forests, despite the thousands of kilometers between us, concerns us. The damage to the ozone layer threatens our entire planet. If all the people and countries we share the world with shall not act sufficiently sensitive about the nature-forest-environment, it means that alarm bells started to ring for all of us.”

Romanian Minister of Forest, Ion Deneş presented a gift to Settar Aslan in memory of the day.

Meanwhile, Romanian TV and Şitirile TV conducted interviews with President Settar Aslan on the services of workers in the protection and development of forests.

Settar Aslan also visited Republic of Turkey Bucharest Embassador, Füsun Aramaz with  Öz Orman-İş International Relations expert, Benül Sözer. Aslan informed Embassador Aramaz about the union activities of Öz Orman-İş.
